My Lord,

I have the honour, respectfully, to make the following representation regarding the salary of the First Clerk in the Registrar General's Office and to ask your lordship's favourable consideration.

In September last I received a letter from the Acting Colonial Secretary inquiring whether, assuming his official salaries were increased as agreed upon the conditions herein stated, he would be willing to continue in my Department. He replied agreeing to the conditions (copy of letter and reply attached). Subsequently, however, I became aware that the Special Committee appointed by the Legislative Council to examine into the details of the Estimates for next year recommended an increase of 20% only to the Third Clerk, leaving out the First Clerk.
