"in that year" and I would respectfully submit that in calculating the increase paid to me as salary paid is Valuator in 1875, should have been taken into account, thus making the proposed increase $192:- instead of $48:- as the "gross emoluments" received by me in 1875 were $1560:- not $840:- as has been taken to be the basis of the calculation.
Under the present system of calculation I shall get an increase of $48:- out of which I am asked to contribute to the Widows and Orphans Fund at the rate of 4% which comes to $1:92 and I shall be a loser thereby $1:92 per annum.
I would therefore respectfully request your Lordships consideration of the foregoing and your Lordship's approval of the increase of 20% being calculated on the "gross emoluments" received by me in 1875, viz:- $840:- in the Treasury as 3rd Clerk and $720:- as Valuator, total $1560:-.
