Since my appointment in 1887 I received quarters.

Last year an allowance of $50 per annum was given to me for extra work in connection with the Vaccination Ordinance.

Under the terms of my agreement (vide L. of S. despatch No. 154 of 1887) I am not allowed private practice. I do not know whether this includes consultation practice.

Hitherto I have not raised this question but respectfully request that now the question of this privilege being granted to me be considered.

In 1889 there were 402 private paying patients in this Hospital and many of these patients after their discharge have presented themselves to me for professional advice. My answer has always been that unless they come into the Hospital I can do nothing for them; naturally they prefer to consult one under whose care they have been for some time.

If this privilege of being allowed consultation practice be granted I should be quite satisfied with the terms of my present agreement.

By consultation practice I mean that patients be allowed to consult me at my residence at a given hour daily. I clearly see that my duties would prevent me from undertaking private practice and visiting patients at their own houses.

As Dr. Lowson, the Assistant Surgeon to this Hospital, is now absent from the Colony on leave, I would respectfully draw the attention of My Lord the Secretary of State to the fact that his salary ($450...
