three of my immediate
predecessors in the
Gaol died in the prime of life - two of them, Mr Donnochie and Mr Douglas, in these quarters - the third, Mr Falconer, shortly after he had left the quarters and handed over the Gaol to me. I do not mean to assert that
these deaths were due to
the unhealthiness of the quarters - but the
reflection is not encouraging, and I am conscious
that I have myself
suffered so much
in health as since I
came to live in Victoria
Gaol.
