As to the
Medical Department the non-official Members made
the following recommendation:-
"The Committee
recommend, having regard to the circumstances of
the case,
that as the
Colonial Surgeon is not
allowed Private Practice,
and that, according
to the Blue Book of Singapore the corresponding
Official
receives $4,200 pay
and $4,800 fees,
the Colonial Surgeon should
receive a salary of $6,000
a year.
The Committee
recommend that the Health Officer should
receive $2,700 - as they "consider that the Private
"Practice allowed has
decreased in value materially of late years owing
to steamers so entirely
superseding sailing
vessels
