The present salary of the post is $3,360 but I propose, in accordance with the discretion given to me - in paragraph 4 of Your Lordship's despatch No. 110 of the 19th of June, to insert a post in the Estimates with a slight increase raising the salary to $3,600. The work of the Colonial Secretary's office has considerably augmented during the last few years, and when submitting the Estimates for 1891 I venture to think that Your Lordship will not disapprove of the slight increase I have mentioned.
Should Mr. May be appointed Assistant Colonial Secretary, the post of Assistant Registrar General will thus become vacant.
