I have consulted Mr Travers as to the necessity of retaining the office of Assistant Postmaster General, but he is of opinion that an Assistant is more absolutely necessary, particularly as the work 301 of particularly the Post Office in this Colony is annually increasing.
The salary of Assistant Postmaster General is fixed at $2,400, under the authorized increase this would amount to $3,240, but in presence of Your Lordship's decision, as regards the salary of the Postmaster General, I propose to keep that of the Assistant at its present figure without any increase.
