On the 21st, he presented himself to get married, saying there was some difficulty towards getting the Certificate, he will surely have it on the 27th (Sunday the 25th and Monday the 26th being holidays!) and entreated the Clergyman to marry them on the 27th to avoid severe inconveniences that would have come to them to postpone their marriage.
The young Clergyman considered that the notice had been given in time to the Registrar, that no complaint had been made, he could proceed to marry them, and so he did. There has been no malicious intention, no disregard to the law, if any wrong was found it was a wrong judgment but innocent mistake.
Now I cannot let pass this occasion without mentioning to Your Excellency that the present cave is one of the great many unconvenient and troublesome consequences which come from the Marriage present Ordinance.
On May 25th, he had not ready the money to pay fees, the fact is he was busy. But either he was not ready or there was some other issue, the Certificate was not brought as Sabino had promised to do on the urgent request. The Clergyman and Labrice asked for the Certificate, there was some delay in getting it, and they were entreated to marry them without further delay.
The Registrars office will be opened on the 27th. The young Clergyman thought that as every law has its exception, this was an exceptional case.
