It is impossible to say that the marriage is invalid. When the marriage Ordinance was being considered in 1875, a memorial was addressed to this Government by representatives of the London Missionary Society, expressing their regret that, under section 39, the Ordinance is only to apply to marriages where both parties profess the Christian religion.

It does seem strange that in a country where the Christian population numbers less than 10,000 out of a population of nearly 200,000, there should be no law by means of which any of the other 190,000 can validate their marriage by means of registration if they desire.
