excess of 10 days at one time, were omitted from the Regulation regarding Sick-leave, issued in accordance with the suggestion contained in your despatch N.84 of the 13th of May, in consideration of the fact that the commonest diseases from which persons suffer in this Colony, such as fever and dysentery, render relaxation from work necessary, as a rule, for a longer period than ten days.

The members of the Executive Council whom I consulted in the matter, were of opinion that it would be fairer to omit a stipulation which might deprive many officers of a portion of the leave earned every year.
