my despatch N. 3044 of the 21st of August I explained the reasons for which it was considered desirable to request that the supply of Subsidiary Coins required to arrive on the 1st of January next, might be increased by $150,000.
It was with regret that I found it necessary to disturb the recently arrived at arrangement regarding the annual supply of these coins, but the extraordinary and increasing demand for these coins showed that provision for their supply had not been made on a sufficiently liberal scale.
I shall endeavour to inform Your Lordship as early as possible what amount will be required next year. The question is at present under the consideration of the Acting Treasurer.
