"Report by Copy 1. Enclosure the Aching 123 Postmaster General. On 1st March 1868, the management of Post Office Agencies in China and Japan was transferred to the Hongkong Government, the Imperial Government contributing an annual sum of £1170, towards the salaries of the several paying Agents. These salaries first appear in the Colonial Estimates for 1869, where the sum of $7728 paid on their account is almost the equivalent of £1170 @ 4/2 after deducting the salary ($720) of the clerk at Shanghai and the allowance of $1,200 of Imperial Salary in aid to the Packet Agent at Shanghai first contributed by Hongkong in 1863.
