the above law was probably made in consequence of the provisions contained in Ordinance No.6 of 1845, establishing a Supreme Court of Judicature in Hongkong, which provided that the law of England should be in force except where the same was inapplicable to the local circumstances of the Colony or its inhabitants. This Ordinance was amended by Ordinance No.2 of 1846 and both were repealed by Ordinance No.12 of 1873.
