I enclose copy of a minute from the Acting Land Officer on the tenure of land. Form $4 Department land should be held, as set forth in the enclosed Form which are submitted for Your Lordship's consideration.

10. On the subject of land by the Military Department, and I would recommend adoption of his suggestion as to the terms on which War Department land is held.

I forwarded Your Lordship's despatch under acknowledgment to Major-General Barker, with a request for information on the tenure of land by the War Department and enclose copy of his reply, 26 Augt. 1896, with copy of a further letter.
