the Fire Brigade, I have the
honour to state that in submitting the Estimates
for the current year, Sir G.
William Des Vœux recommended
in the 21st paragraph of his despatch No.391 of the 24th of
December last, that the salaries of the Assistant Superintendents of the Fire
Brigade should be increased to $720 per
annum.
When Mr. Kinghorn was appointed in March last on 3 months probation
to the post formerly known as that of Assistant Superintendent and Engineer of the Fire Brigade, but, as explained in
my despatch No 221 of the 7th of July, now termed simply
"that of Engineer to the Fire Brigade", Your Lordship's approval of the Estimates had not as yet been received.
Mr. Kinghorn was accordingly appointed on his old salary of $480 per annum.
