I have to trouble you about the following matter.

Mr Sidney Fitzhardinge Berkeley, who I am given to understand is your brother, applied to me on the 11th September last for employment. He stated that he was anxious to find suitable employment on shore, as life at sea as a Marine Engineer did not suit him, since he suffered habitually from sea sickness. As there was at the time a vacancy in the Government service, I recommended him for employment, on probation, as Assistant Engineer, at the rate of $100 a month with the understanding that...
