to-
of the finances permitting, this Colony is willing to make the sacrifice of
Revenue which would
result by the reduction of the postage of letters by
all routes to a universal
rate of 2d.
The Acting Postmaster General has furnished
me with a report showing the Revenue of this Colony
would sustain a very considerable loss by the
proposed change, and I have, with the advice of the Executive Council, decided to lay Your Lordship's despatch and Mr Travers' report before the Legislative Council at the earliest
opportunity, with a view to the question of whether this Colony can afford to make the sacrifice referred to above, being referred to the Finance Committee for
their advice.
