Adverting to my application of the 24th of June for six weeks vacation leave which His Excellency was pleased to grant, and subsequent correspondence relating to the manner in which I spent my time during the period in question, I have the honour to represent that when I applied for leave it was for the purpose of visiting some Chinese friends, who are interested in a proposed [scheme] at Canton.
