Your Lordship further states that in 1885 I applied for, and obtained an appointment in
Hong Kong as
"Foreman of works"
with a salary of $1600, and that my present pay and position cannot but be regarded as substantial promotion.
I would be allowed to inform Your Lordship that I was appointed as Clerk of works, at a salary of $1960 per annum, rising by yearly increments of $54 to a maximum of $2066, in 1884.
And in September of the same year, i.e. 1884, my agreement was canceled and I was appointed Valuer under the Rating Ordinance, at a Salary of $2640 per annum, and continued in the same to the date of my present appointment.
