as successor to
the late Mr. Rodrigues
at a
salary of $90 a month.
Mr Travers, however,
reported that Mr Freire was too old to be able to perform the duties
connected with the post
(such as sorting etc.) which required a younger
more active man.

The only other arrangement which appeared possible was
to promote Mr. J. A. ... Barradas to succeed Mr.
Rodriques, and to give Mrs. Moosa and Mr Gutierrez
each a step in consequence,
