General Post Office respecting a claim by the Imperial Government against the Hongkong Post Office for £958.7.7.

The amount in question is, I am informed, made up of the following items, which Mr Barradale, the former Superintendent of the Money Order Office, whose defalcations formed the subject of my despatch No. 262 of the 30th ultimo, embezzled and consequently did not advise.

£304.8.1 on the 6th June, 1890.
£407.9.7 on the 11th July, 1890.
£218.9.11

These units, however, were subsequently advised to the Crown Agents on the following dates, viz:-

The third sum claimed is £346.9.1, but £218.9.11 was advised, as a sum of £28 had been over-advised in previous accounts.
