Deane, C.M.G., Captain Superintendent of Police, and acting Colonial Secretary, in which he requests that I will obtain Your Lordship's instructions as to the effect that the scheme for increase of salaries detailed in Your Lordship's despatch of 19th June, will have on the pay now drawn upon by him.
I can add nothing to the explanation given by Mr. Deane in his communication. He clearly relates the position in which he stands, and he desires Your Lordship's opinion as to what extent his salary will be increased by the application of the new scheme to him.
