the mistress or another procurer such as
when she
as the
terminates as
her
argot or
guardian of her purchaser,
and without whose consent no
important business can be
accomplished. When redeemed the
girl becomes one of the wives of the
party redeeming her. It prostitutes
herself in a first-class brothel until the
age of thirty or less. If not
presents at certain seasons is so much a matter of course, that the purchaser regards the receipt of them
as a certainty, and demands the money, leaving only to the girl some
four or five dollars, and whatever
she may be able to retain
by misrepresenting
the amount bestowed
upon her. In the event of the purchaser dying after the admission of her
being redeemed by that time she either
rejoins her purchaser
or is sent to an inferior
brothel or becomes a servant in the
brothel. The whole of her earnings having been divided between the
purchaser and the mistress, she has
nothing unless what she
may have made from time to
time by presents given at festivals or at other times, such presents amounting
to thirty or forty dollars at a time. Even these however are not left entirely in her own hands. The bestowal of
presents after purchase into
a brothel, the
prostitute derives no benefit,
earnings are then paid to the nearest relative of the purchaser unless the husband of the purchaser
is alive in which case he receives
them as
during his wife's life. In
the case of the brothel keepers and
servants in addition to the
purchases which they themselves make, they
also bring up their own children as
prostitutes with the same conditions of payment.
