eighty-eight registered brothels for the use of Chinese. Chinese are not allowed to frequent those used by Europeans, nor Europeans those used by Chinese. No licence fee is charged, and the object of registering them is for the protection of the inmates and the preservation of order. Those registered for Chinese are divided into three classes, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. They are divided according to their size and general respectability.
