at home entertain the not unreasonable

belief that, if successful, they will be considered eligible for such of the higher offices in the Colony as they may be fitted for, that the office of Postmaster General was included in

the list of offices for which Cadets should have a "preferential claim" (Vide Sir G. Bowen's despatch-no: 84 of 1883 reply to the Secretary of State's despatch 20:2780 1882 re posts which "should always be held by Cadets") And that three of the Cadets are at present unprovided for.
