omission of any New vote for Gaol, I have in my 10421 despatch N. 123 of 28th April. Gov last mentioned to Your Lordship the necessity of providing increased accommodation for prisoners, and I trust that I shall soon be able to submit some scheme for approval.

The erection of a new Gaol, contemplated, would be a very costly undertaking, and bearing in mind the many public works now on hand it is not one that I should be desirous of commencing at the present moment if such could be avoided.

I have requested the Surveyor General to furnish me with the information asked for in the 19th paragraph of your despatch. Mr. Brown tells me that the estimates required by Your Lordship are being prepared, but
