With the original design, I did not indicate thereon the concreting of the bed as recommended by Sir John Coode. But I have in a former report expressed my concurrence in this expedient, and I should add that it is intended to carry out the work as it advances. The accompanying section shows the extent to which I understand Sir John Coode considers that concrete should be used. I estimate the extra cost of this construction at $18,384.

2. I am also in favour of the adoption of the Toggles for the front of the concrete blocks as recommended by Sir John Coode.

3. As regards facing the front Blocks with Granite Ashlar as suggested in Sir John Coode's last report, I see no difficulty in the adoption of this expedient except the extra cost. I am not altogether...
