request that Your Lordship will be good enough to forward to me six copies of the Act under which the Census will be taken in England for 1891.

Until I am in possession of the Act it is not possible for me to know the exact date at which the Census is to be taken, but I may mention to Your Lordship that the Acting Registration General, Mr. Mitchell, has drawn my attention to the fact that April is the most undesirable month for taking a Census in this Colony, inasmuch as the Chinese absent themselves in large numbers during this month for the purpose of joining in the celebration of the worship of the tombs on the Mainland of China.

But should April be again fixed for taking the Census in England and Your Lordship may desire that it be taken here at the same period, I should be glad, however, to learn Your Lordship's views on this point.
