It is noticeable that these Chinamen seem quite ready to commute at 5 years purchase; from an economical point of view this must be advantageous to you; but even so, the retiring Policeman practically gets a gratuity of 15 months' pay after 10 years service, whereas in Mr. Clarke's new scheme & for the Barbados Police he only suggests 5 months for a like length of service

In accordance with the instructions laid down in the second paragraph of your despatch No. 60 of the 28th of September 1885, I have the honour to enclose the usual papers of particulars relating to Police Constable granted during the quarter ending 31st March last and to request your sanction to the payment to him of the amount to which he is entitled in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance 8 of 1869.
