§ 0.543
Application for increase of Salary.
Public Works Department,
227. February 1889.
I have the honour to address you today on the following circumstances.
Having been connected with the Public Works Department of this Colony for the last five years as Assistant Engineer, during which term it has been constant to give satisfaction, I would beg your kind influence in recommending to His Excellency The Governor, that my present Salary be increased.
I would seek this indulgence on the grounds of increasing expenses in living and house rent at present time as compared with previous years, the latter item of house rents alone having increased some thirty per cent (30%) since the first year of my service in this Colony, and I might add that due to such heavy outlay from my Salary, I am compelled to reduce, and my Wife returns to England in the next two months.
That in view of the above, I hope His Excellency the Governor will be able to increase my present salary.
In the event of His Excellency the Governor being unable to increase my present salary, may I be allowed to offer myself as a Candidate for an appointment in another Colony.
I am,
Sir,
Yours faithfully,
I. M. Price,
Assistant Engineer.
