Mr. Nicolle reported his arrival on the 15th instant, and the publication of appointment and arrival in the Government Gazette gave rise to a question as to the wording of the Notification.
It is stated in your despatch under acknowledgment that Mr Nicolle has been appointed by the Comptroller and Auditor General, and I proposed to gazette the appointment accordingly; but the matter being referred to Mr. Nicolle, he represented that being a Colonial Official, drawing pay from Colonial Funds, and entitled to pension, his appointment should appear as being made by me.
