It is doubtful whether such a large reduction can be made in the staff of the Audit Office as Mr. Nicolle contemplates, but even if it should be found possible to do so, the extra work thrown on the Colonial Secretary's Office will probably necessitate the transfer to that Department and to the Treasury (at an annual expenditure of approximately five thousand dollars) of the Clerks no longer required in the Audit, so it is possible that no real saving will be effected.
