No. 46.

Enclosure.

9913

Inspector of Schools to Acting Colonial Secretary.

Sir,

Res 20 MAY 30

Education Department,

Hongkong, 12th April, 1890.

I have the honour to submit an application by the Headmistress of the Government Central School for girls resigning her post from 1st September next and I beg to recommend that the resignation be accepted and that measures be taken to obtain from England another Headmistress under substantially the same conditions as before.

2.

I enclose the formal application of Miss Mann dated 11th April, 1890, resigning her post as Headmistress of the Government Central School for girls from 1st September next.

3.

I also enclose a semi-official note of Miss Mann, of 11th April, 1890, expressing satisfaction with the treatment she received on the part of the Government and stating that she is willing to continue her duties until her successor arrives.

4.

As neither of the two letters gives the reason for this application, I add that the only reason for this unexpectedly early resignation is that the lady has become engaged to a gentleman who was a fellow-passenger on the steamer which brought her out, and who informed me officially that

The Honourable W. M. Deane,

Acting Colonial Secretary,
