with the Sanitation of the District, arrived at the conclusion that the appointment of an Officer to devote his whole time to the inspection of the district was urgently needed, and in this view the Board has been strongly supported by Mr Robert Chadwick.

4. The area to be attended to is four square miles and the population ashore and afloat is about twenty thousand. There is a considerable amount of building going on in the district, and the presence of an extensive Military Cantonment in the centre of the district renders the maintenance of proper sanitary arrangements very necessary.
