the opportunity of muting objections giving those explanations in detail which can best be made orally. I would further venture to refer to the fact that from the early days of the Colony until my appointment, the Surveyor General has, I believe, been a member of the Executive Council, and the Colonial Engineer, and General, is a member of that Council in which Gubernatorial Works of any importance are carried on personally.
It would be a matter of regret to myself if it could in the future be said that the position of the Surveyor General had suffered in any way during my term of service, and I may add that it would be some matter of sincere satisfaction to have the appointment of my successor in good time.
