Sisters of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, I have the honour to inform Your Lordship that the experiment has not proved satisfactory, and after much correspondence between the Government, the Medical Department and the Sister Superioress of the Society in this Colony, Sir William Des Vœux came to the conclusion that the best course was to substitute a staff of English trained nurses.

I will not trouble Your Lordship by transmitting for your perusal the voluminous correspondence referred to above. It will probably be sufficient if I state briefly the reasons which led the Governor to believe that it was desirable to obtain a staff of trained English nurses. These were (1st) the want of training on the part of the Sisters in the performance of their duties...
...give notice of the termination of agreement with the Sisters, and to adopt the recommendation of Colonial Surgeon and the Superintendent of the Government Civil Hospital, and substitute the Sisters for a staff of their particular duties which entailed much expense on the Superintendent and Wardmasters.
