Hong Kong Advocate,
but not any of the fees hitherto drawn by
my predecessors Attorneys General.
I am unable to admit that the telegram in which
was offered
the appointment of Attorney General at a salary of $7000 per
annum
that private

any

As the A.G. is no
longer to be allowed
to retain fees in cases where costs
are
recovered by the Crown
in Civil actions
from
an adverse litigant,
I have to instruct
you that the firm should in future
not claim Counsel's fees
in such actions; but only expenses out of pocket. This rule has recently
been
laid
down in other Crown
Colonies.
