correspondence with Mr. George Brewer, relative to the grant of a compassionate allowance to the children of his brother, the late Mr. J. J. Brewer, and to inform you that enquiries are being made into the circumstances attending the accident to which Mr. George Brewer refers in his letter.
2. I had intended recommending the appointment of Mr. Wagner, Assistant Marine Surveyor, to succeed Mr. Brewer, but I regret to have to report that he died on the 19th instant. I accordingly telegraphed to Your Lordship on the 20th instant as follows:- Referring to your despatch No. 245 of 31st December, Assistant Surveyor Wagner is dead.
