Mr. Hoo was appointed to be Attorney General of this Colony, arrived here on the 16th instant and has assumed the duties of his office.

I have conveyed to Mr. Goodman the information which I received from the Treasury, and that he will, in accordance with the Colonial Regulations, be entitled to receive during the voyage from British Honduras to Hong Kong half of the salary of his new appointment, but cannot receive more.

As regards the salary you requested I should explain to him in Your Lordship's despatch No. 8 of the 3rd of January last, namely, that all fees hitherto paid to the Attorney General of this Colony in connection with the registration of Trade Marks, or for any other service must in future be paid into the Treasury.

I have the honour to inform you that I proposed the increase to $7,800 a year at the last meeting of the Legislative Council on the 12th instant, as referred to in Your Lordship's despatch No. 12 of the 25th October 1889.
