M. Deane's seat has again become
Vacant, I think the vacancy may possibly have been taken the opportunity of soothing Mr Ackroyd by putting him in temporarily.
? Reply that T. of State regrets that it was not found possible having due regard to the claims of other Candidates to promote Mr Ackroyd certainly but that his name will be borne in mind in the event of a suitable vacancy recurring W. 7.24/4 J.W.

Supreme Court Hongkong 26 June 1890.
My dear,
A few days ago I received a letter from the Acting Governor by Lord Knutsford's despatch in reply to mine of March last. His Lordship states that
having very carefully considered Mr Ackroyd for the Attorney Generalship, but I think that on the occurrence of the next vacancy his claims could hardly be overlooked.
I think the above would be a proper answer, with the substitution of the word "certainly" for "still".
Lord Knutsford states that Mr Ackroyd was not specially considered for the Attorney Generalship, but I think that on the occurrence of the next vacancy his claims could not be overlooked.
