I trust that I may be excused if I ask Your Lordship to take into consideration my claims to a Chief Justiceship should a vacancy occur.

I have heard incidentally that the present Chief Justice of Ceylon is likely to be vacant soon, and as this may cause similar appointments elsewhere, I venture to take this opportunity of addressing Your Lordship on the subject.

but I do not like the prospect of being relegated to the office of Puisne Judge upon James Russell's return.
