May I bring to the notice of Jo that I have come to the decision to adopt the recommendation that the Attorney General, on the occurrence of a vacancy, should not be allowed private practice. I propose henceforth that the salary should be raised to $167,200, which is in line with the strategy adopted for a similar appointment at the Straits Settlements.

I request you to state whether, in your opinion, the Attorney General should in that case continue to receive fees for reporting applications for the Registration of Trademarks; or whether that should be regarded as part of the regular duties in respect of his office, for which the above salary is fixed.
