I should be glad to take advantage, as far as I can, of the leave which has been granted to me from November, and my departure regards the long leave which extends until about the 12th of December next. I know that I could not expect leave subsequent to the departure of the New Colonial Secretary for transmissions.

4. I have not as yet ascertained the dates of my absence, but if Lord Knutsford will allow me to communicate with him subsequently, I shall be obliged.

I should be glad to take place about the route to Hong Kong, which is the best route to proceed by, but so soon as I ascertain the date for my departure, I will propose to do so.
