In reply to your letter of the 7th instant I am directed by the Postmaster General to state, for the information of Lord Hunteford that this Department has not received from the Foreign Office any communication as to the views of the French Government respecting the proposed establishment of a National Post Office in China since September 1886, when a brief preliminary despatch from H.M. Chargé d'Affaires at Paris was received. Of the views of the Japanese and United States Governments on this subject the Postmaster General has been informed.
The Undersecretary of State for the Colonies.
