China
To The Adjutant General to the Forces
War Office London.
Head Quarters. Hongkong
11 Sept. 1889.
Sir,
With reference to my No. 2910.
of the 29 August
I have the honour to inform you
that the Colonial Government have applied for the services of Lieut: Colonel Champernowne Royal Engineers, up to the 10 September, the day before he sails for England.
The first mail steamer by which Colonel Champernowne could leave, sails on the 11 September, there would be no advantage in his rejoining for military duty for a few days.
I have accordingly sanctioned his employment under the Colonial Government up to the 10 instant. I have the honour to report this for approval.
I have to
W. Carter Colonel on the Staff R.A.
for General
Commanding Troops in China
