(REC:
REGE 2 NOV 9,
The Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury
have hadbefore Them Mr Bramston's letter of the 6th instant
in which Lord Knutsford points out the bearing of a schome
for reclaiming land from the sea at Hong Kong
upon the
claim of the Imperial Government upon the Colony for a
contribution towards Barrack and Hospital Expenditure.
I am to state, in reply that this embankment scheme has
not yet been submitted to the Treasury in a definite shape,
and My Lords do.not know whether it will ever be carried
out without a contribution in money or a surrender of
frontage on the part of both Admiralty and War Departments.
My Lords do not see therefore how it can be allowed
for, at present, by the Treasury, in assessing the Colonial
share of Barrack charge.
SC:
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient servant,
Rewelay
