Whereas the said Arthur Chapman hath been appointed Assessor of Rates in the Treasury) Department of Hong Kong for a porcod of Three years from the date of his arrival in the Colony..
Now the said Arthur Chupmun doth agree with the said Undersigned that the terms of his engagement such Assessor of Rates shall be as follows :-

The said Arthur Chapman will as soon as required proceed to Hong Kong and on his arrival there will be placed under the general orders of the Colonial Treasuror and his principal duties will be the valuation of property and its assessment to the rates in force in the Colony He will also be required to undertake any other duties of a similar character which may be entrusted to him by the Government
The
e salary to be paid to the said Arthur Chapman shall be at the rate of Two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500) per annum · payable in monthly instalments half salary to commence from date of leaving England and full salary from the date of arrival in the Colony with an allowance of Two -hundred and eighty eight dollars ($288) per year for conveyance.
