on its behalf and such wages shall commence from the date of the said John Davis arrival in the Colony. The Government shall also pay the said John Davis allowances after the rate of Twelve dollars ($12) per month for chair hire and Seven dollars ($7) a day when employed on Tide work on

Sundays

The Government shall provide the said John Davis with a Second Class passage from England to Hong Kong (including journey to place of embarkation; and provided his conduct shall have been satisfactory. -back again to England (including journey from Fort of arrival) at the termination of this Agreement and shall pay him after the rate of half his wayes during the voyage out and home again and in the event of the said John Davis being compelled by reason of ill health not caused by his.

· own impropriety of conduct but not otherwise to resign his appointment- the said Government shall provide him with a return passage upon his producing a Medical Certificate to that effect, but if he should resign his appointment from any other cause, he shall refund to the said Government or to the Crown Agents for the Colonies the amount paid for his passage to the Colony.

5. If the said John Davis during the continuance of this Agreement should absent himself from duty throughillhealth he shall produce a Medical Certificate to the Government to that effect and if his sickness should be caused through his own impropriety of conduct or if he should absent himself from his work from any cause whatever without leave he shall forfeit his wages for the number of days he shall be absent from duty,

6 . In the event of the said John Davis failing to

depart to Hong Kong as herein before agreed _or_on

his arrival there being quilty of drunkenness insubordination or neglecting or failing or refusing to comply with all the orders and directions of the said Government or its representative or to perform all or any of the stipulations provisions and agreements heraubefore

contained and in such case and immediately upon suck. failure neglect or refusal the said Government shall have the power to discharge the said John Davis and this present Agreement shall be null and void to all intents and purposes and the said Ichn Davis, shall forfeit all claim or demand which otherwise he might could have had upon or against the pait Government and shall forthwith repay to the said Government such sums of money as they may.

have paid for his passage out to Hong Kong.

7. The said Government shall have the power at any time during the currency of this Agreement; to terminate it on giving to the said John Daves Three months notice in writing or paying him a sum equal to Three months-salary in lieu of such notice . 8. In the event of the said John Davis, under

taking the execution of any Works in Hong Kong for the said Government as a Sub-Contacta under them in such case the provisions of this Agreement. shall be suspended until the completion of the Works the subject of such Sub-Contract Provided always and it is hereby agreed that the said John Davis shall on being required so to do by the said Government execute works for any

other person or persons as provided for by Aause 3 of this Agreement.

The said John Davis upon the said Government in respect of the

agrees to make no claim fluctuation in the value of the dollar.

The said Government shall deduct each month from the wages of the said Sokon Davis
