I have the honour to acknowledge the
receipt of your letter of the 10th. instant tendering
your resignation of your seat on the Local Defence Commit-
tee, in accordance with the wishes of His Excellency
Admiral Sir Nowell Salmon.
I have received your decision with extreme
regret, and as the co-operation of the Navy is essential
to the effective working of the Committee, I should feel
much obliged if you would inform me as to the causes
which have led to this step, with a view to an effort
