NOTICE-Governors, Consular Officers, and other Officers of Her Majesty in Foreign Countries, and in places where there are no such Governors or fleurs, any two resident British Merchants have power, under the 11th Section of the Merchant Shipping Act, to order a passage home for British Seamon And Apprentices who are in distress in any place abroad, in British Ships bound to any port in the United Kingdom or the British Possessions to which they belong, and Masters of British Ships, upon such Order, are by the 212th Section bound under a penalty of £100 to receive auf to afford a passage and subsistence to such Sewn and Apprentices, not exceeding one Seaman or Apprentius for every 50 tons register, thus ordered to be conveyed, and to provide them with proper herth or sleeping places effectually protected against sea and weather. If the men are transferred to any other Ship, the particulars, with the date of the transfer and the Ship's name, must be entered at the time of the transfer in the Official Log Books of both vessels.

On arrival at the port to which the seamen are ordered to be conveyed, the Master should take them to the Superintendent of Mercantile Marino (if in the United Kingdom) or to the corresponding officer, if in a British Possession abroad; wiless this is done the Board of Trade will not be responsible for the payment of the Claim,

When the Mastor appears before the Superintendent or other Offler, together with the Seamen, he must make the following declaration; --

Norz-Ju special enses when the health of seamen, in the opinion of the surgeon, demands that they should he supplied with extra diet or wines, entries should be nuls in the Official Log Book of the days ou which such extra allowance was given, and sigued by the Master and the Surgeon.

In these cases the Superintendent to whom this Order is prosented for pay- ment will give the Master a Form UDA, to be filled up with particulars of

the extra claim.

Any such extra claim must be supported by proper onrries in the Log Book, and made at the time the Conveyance Order is presented for payment.

All such claims, when sufficiently supported by entries in the Log Book, should be referred to the Finance Departout for approval before payment

is made.
